cookie dough

Our Ingredients

Ice Box Bakery makes cookie dough using only premium and pure ingredients, just like you would do at home. In most cases, doing the right thing comes at a higher cost. Ice Box believes that doing the right thing is well worth the cost. For example, an inexpensive alternative to butter is Palm oil. Palm oils are found in most leading brands of cookies, crackers, and other popular snack foods today. Technically, Palm oil is a natural ingredient allowing many food manufactures to use the “all natural” label giving the consumer the perception that the product is not only healthy, but also good for the environment. This is simply not accurate.

As one of the world’s leading agricultural commodities, the vast plantations that grow oil palm trees have contributed to the destruction of the rainforest and wildlife of Southeast Asia. Those side effects are not broadly recognized—and avoided—by governments, food manufacturers, or consumers. The last remaining habitats for Sumatran Orangutans and Tigers are being destroyed at a rapid rate. According to the UN’s FAO estimates, from years 2000-2005 Indonesia had the second largest area of deforestation (after Brazil) with about 1.87 million hectares cleared every year (1.91% of forest area per year).

For every 250 lbs. of butter used in place of Palm oil roughly 80 acres of rain forest is saved. In it’s first full year in business, Ice Box used 500 lbs of butter which saved over 160 acres of rainforest. As Ice Box Bakery continues to grow so does its ability to protect the rain forest and creatures that depend on its existence. Though not as unhealthy as partially hydrogenated oil, palm oil still promotes heart disease and makes an inferior tasting cookie!
